Award-Winning Organist to Perform at Spelman College Recital

Jens Korndörfer, organist at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, will perform in concert as part of the Spelman College Harreld-James Organ Recital Series, Sunday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. An award-winning musician, Korndörfer has won second prize as well as the Liszt Prize in the second Canadian International Organ Competition in Montreal. Highlights of Korndörfer’s 2012-13 season include his debut in Russia with a series of six concerts, the world premier of Vania Angelova’s "Dies Irae" and concerts in Germany, France, Canada and China. The Harreld-James Organ Recital Series is presented by the Spelman College Office of the President and the department of music.


On the program are works by Bach, Vierne, Alain, Ives, and others.


The recital is free and open to the public.

Now in its sixth year, the Harreld-James Organ Recital Series was started to honor the memory of two important icons of the Spelman College department of music, Kemper Harreld and Willis James, as well as celebrate the classical sounds of organ music through the performances of notable organists.

About Jens Korndörfer
German-born concert organist Jens Korndörfer has performed to critical acclaim at many prestigious venues, including Westminster Abbey in London; Notre Dame Cathedral and St. Sulpice in Paris; Chapel Royal in Versailles; Kaiser-Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche in Berlin; the Münster in Ulm; St. James Cathedral in Toronto; and Suntory Hall and Metropolitan Art Space in Tokyo Kyoto Concert Hall.  Korndörfer serves as organist at First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. He graduated with top honors from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and the Musikhochschule in Bayreuth, Germany. In 2011, Korndörfer won second prize as well as the Liszt Prize in the second Canadian International Organ Competition in Montreal.
