One-Woman Play 'Fighting for the Title' at Spelman College for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Spelman College Department of Drama and Dance, the Office of Research Resources, the Women’s Research and Resource Center and the Office of Student Activities have partnered to present “Fighting for the Title,” a one-woman musical written, produced and performed by award-winning gospel artist Delores Burgess. In the play, Burgess blends her voice in R&B, gospel and blues styles to depict nine characters and share her triumphant and traumatic battle with breast cancer.

Admission to the play is free and open to the public.

Why:   
As part of its ongoing focus on wellness, Spelman College aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, recognize the health disparities among African-American women and provide the necessary education and resources to help combat these challenges. According to BreastCancer.org, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer is more common among African-American women under the age of 45 and African-American women are more likely to die from the disease.
