'Sock-It to Diabetes: Holiday Sock Drive

Spreading holiday cheer and delivering socks ...to those in need.

Ruby A. Neeson Diabetes Awareness Foundation, Inc. Holiday Sock Drive is an annual community service mission, collecting new socks to be distributed to those homeless with diabetes in the metropolitan Atlanta area around the holidays.

The mission begun on December 1st, with the official kick-off of the Holiday Sock Drive- and will continue until New Years Eve, December 31st.

Why Donate Socks
Foot care is an ongoing issue for diabetics. Unfortunately, homeless people face barriers to healthcare. Chronic diseases, including diabetes are frequent in homeless people. The quandary of those who are homeless living with diabetes is intensely critical, because managing diabetes compels observance to an important, serious care strategy.

Although socks are a basic need, for those homeless, access to socks can often be limited. Something as simple as socks can impact their life.

In an effort to improve care for this vulnerable population; and to reduce the high risk of developing serious foot complications, Ruby A. Neeson Diabetes Awareness Foundation, Inc. has collaborated with community partner, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library: West End Branch to collect and distribute socks to the homeless.

Upon receiving the socks, sock beneficiaries will receive diabetes foot care and diabetes health and wellness education from certified diabetes educators.

Thick, sturdy white socks are preferred however all socks will be helpful and accepted. A $5.00 donation to the organization can provide five new pairs of Diabetic Crew Socks.
All donations are tax-deductible. To donate socks, please visit the SW Atlanta drop-off location: Atlanta-Fulton Public Library: West End Branch, located at 525 Peeples St SW, Atlanta GA 30310. Ask for Branch Manager, Rosie Meadows. To make a donation, please visit the Donate page on the organization website: www.fightdiabetesnow.org
