U.S. Labor Secretary in Job Symposium

Atlanta, GA (October 3, 2011) - Cascade United Methodist Church’s Career Network is excited to host U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis and the U.S. Department of Labor's Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships (CFBNP) in a job symposium aimed at getting Americans back to work. The event takes place Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 1pm- 4pm at Cascade UMC. Secretary Solis will also address the group and meet individually with some of the job seekers.
The sessions will focus on the important roles career ministries and job clubs play in what can be a faith-challenging process. It comes four months after CFBNP launched its new “Job Clubs” Initiative, aimed at building a nationwide directory and technical assistance resource for job clubs, career transition ministries, and other support groups for the unemployed. The event will be one of the first which brings together these groups from the Atlanta area.

“We are blessed to be able to partner with the Department of Labor and Secretary Solis to get information out about the opportunities available for those who have committed themselves to fighting the good fight,” says Cascade Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Marvin A. Moss. “Cascade is a Light in the Community and the more people we touch, the brighter that Light will shine.”
The Cascade Career Network (CCN) is a vital and vibrant ministry which provides important resources, seminars and workshops to job seekers and those changing careers. The group will be among the participants and attendees who will also include workforce development officials, nonprofit leaders, and employers. The event is open to the public.
