Local Westlake High Cheerleader Breaks the Guinness World Record

Wow, that takes some real strength and determination

Great news to report about a local high school student cheerleader from Westlake High, who has just entered into the Guinness World Record books for her amazing athletic achievements.

Mikayla Clark, a Westlake High School junior, has been practicing and pursuing her goal of breaking the record of most consecutive backhand springs since the beginning of the football season.

Mikaya is a squad leader for the school cheerleaders and is also a member of the Georgia All Stars Competition Squad which travels the region and nation competing in cheerleader competitions.  The junior is just 16 years of age and now in the record books.

At Westlake High School homecoming game Mikayla decided to go for the record of 36 consecutive backhand springs, flipping herself blindly backwards for more than 36 times in a row.  Did Mikayla make it???

Not only did Mikayla match the current record of 36 backhand springs, she smashed the record and completed a total of 44 backhand springs!  The fan at the football game cheered her on and her entire cheer squad jogged down the track with Mikayla as she kept flipping and flipping all the way to the record.

What a great achievement.  I love the fact that she set her goals and focused intently on accomplishing them.  Great Job Mikayla and the whole Westlake High Cheer Squad!
