Dr. Lowery says "Carry On" with Birthday Celebration While Holding Wife in Prayer

UPDATE 9/26:  Mrs. Evelyn Lowery passed away at her home early Thursday morning. A statement from the family can be found here.

Original Story: Cascade Patch has just learned that the 92 year birthday celebration scheduled for Dr. Joseph Lowery will go on as planned on Sunday, October 6th.  There was some thought that since his wife Evelyn was in the hospital battling an illness, the celebration may be postponed, but under Dr. Lowery's directive it will "carry on."

The following is a statement released by the family and event organizers:
While we continue to lift Mrs. Evelyn Lowery in prayer and pray for Dr. Lowery and the entire Lowery family,  it is Dr. Lowery’s  directive that “we carry on” with plans for the Musical and Theatrical Production, “I Have Known Rivers” which celebrates the work of Dr. Lowery. The event, scheduled for, Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Chapel at Morehouse College is the major source of funding for the work of the Joseph E. Lowery Institute at Clark Atlanta University.  Two examples of the work of the Institute are the anti-violence and conflict resolution programs at Perkinson Elementary School and Sylvan Middle School as well as a race and reconciliation program with college students.

This “carry on” spirit is indicative of the legacy and life work of both Dr. and Mrs. Lowery who believe that no matter what, through life, death, hardships, or even when a warrior falls, the work that must be done is too important not to move forward. So, it is that spirit that we will proceed with activities for the Fund-raiser Celebration on October 6. Steve Harvey will host the event and Tyler Perry will receive the first “Agent of Change Award”. Tickets may be purchased through www.loweryinstitute.org/Lowery92.
