Your Life Is Your Own. Decide and Commit.

Consumers spend billions of dollars on prescription medication and recurring doctor visits for a host of preventable diseases. Will you make time for the doctor or make time to sweat? Decide.

Yesterday was World Aids Day. It was a staunch reminder of an epidemic that continues to blanket our planet. One of the pillars of AIDS education is the concept of self-responsibility. Seminars in countries all over the world teach participants how to protect themselves and become a personal health advocate.

This concept of personal health advocacy resonated with me as I witness many people taking their health for granted. Each year, consumers spend billions of dollars on prescription medication, medical procedures and recurring doctor visits for a host of preventable diseases.

At the same time I hear excuses about not having time to workout or cook. The ironic part is that once a chronic disease like diabetes sets in, you will have to make time to prick your finger and check your blood sugar each day. You will have to make time to take medicine and attend regular doctor’s visits.

There are 168 hours in a week. At Fit Neighborhood, we ask our clients to commit 3-5 of those hours to physical activity that can change their lives. That leaves 165-163 hours to do whatever else life demands. I think that’s fair. Don’t you?

The choice is yours. Will you magically create time to sit at the doctor’s office or will you take responsibility and make time to sweat? Will you choose to cope with a life of pill popping or enhance the quality of your life without limitation? In this season of presents and holiday cheer, the best gift you can give to yourself, your family and the world is a healthy you!
