(Updated) Atlanta Prep Pupils Say "I am Troy Davis," Too

Among the 3,000 demonstrators Friday against the execution of Troy Davis were youth from southwest Atlanta's Atlanta Preparatory School.

More than 3,000 people gathered in Woodruff Park Friday evening to protest the execution of death row inmate Troy Anthony Davis, including many southwest Atlanta residents.

Davis is scheduled to die by lethal injection Sept. 21 for the 1989 shooting death of Savannah Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail unless the state Board of Pardons and Paroles grants him clemancy today, according to an AJC.com report today.

Cherise, Ami, Alsur-Razaq, and Amaru, all students at Atlanta Preparatory Academy on Martin Luther King Dr., were in the crowd, accompanied by their chaperone, Samantha Watkins.

The students drew attention with their homemade signs proclaiming, "I am Troy Davis" as they marched from Woodruff Park to Ebeneezer Baptist Church on Auburn Avenue. Like the other demonstrators, they are hopeful that they can convince the state's pardons' board today to spare Davis' life.

According to Watkins, the kids told their teachers before they left school for the weekend that they planned to attend the rally in support of Davis. Many of the marchers took notice of the youthful protesters and stopped to take photos of them.

Cascade Patch was on the scene to capture the young demonstrators and their chaperone in pictures.

Actually, I think it is SO disgusting to bring children of such a young age into this. Children this age are only doing what their so-called teachers are telling them to do. It's really dispicable.

"based on false, misleading and materially inaccurate evidence." Suppose you r son or daughter were in his place. Would you not want all tests available to be administered. I have three law enforcement officers in my family and they would not want to see an innocent party executed for a crime they did not commit.
