Cleta Winslow Uses Tax Payer Dollars AGAIN to Fund Re-Election Efforts

ATLANTA— Atlanta City Council District Four Challenger Torry Lewis has evidence that Cleta Winslow has used city money to pay for her campaign efforts again.  Lewis requested an open records request which provided a receipt to Proview Tours, LLC for $390.00 to pick up seniors from Abernathy Towers and Columbia Senior Living to be dropped off at her campaign headquarters located at 591 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd.  The Proview bus was also seen leaving Veranda Senior Living at Collegetown and The Atrium Senior Living. The receipt shows the date of transport at the same time and place that Winslow threw her campaign kick-off party.  At the party, which was caught on tape, Winslow gave away “Re-Elect Cleta Winslow” t-shirts and food.

In 2006, the City of Atlanta Ethics Officer warned Winslow about using city resources for her campaign efforts (Ethics complaint CO-05-004).  In 2010, The City of Atlanta Ethics Officer fined Winslow $1,500 and demanded repayment of $5,420 of city funds after violating section 2-811 of the city ethics code again (Case No. CO-09-007). There is also an ongoing ethics investigation looking into Winslow’s possible misuse of city funds to print campaign literature using the design of the District 4 Update.

Lewis commented, “This is disrespectful to ALL of the citizens of Atlanta.  To openly use city money to fund her campaign three times in a row should face tough penalties.  Regardless of the outcome of the election, I will call for a complete audit of the councilwoman and ensure that all levels of law-enforcement are involved.”  As elected officials around the state are being indicted for the same actions of Ms. Winslow, Lewis commented, “Cleta Winslow will find that her fate will be in the hands of the courts and I will make sure she goes to jail, if need be, regardless of the result of this campaign”
