Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards Hosts District 7 Information Session on the Affordable Care Act on September 10th

Commissioner Edwards Urges Citizens to Learn More and Get Ready for the Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Beginning October 1st
On August 21, 2013, at its Recess Meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards in support of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The resolution was also co-sponsored by Vice Chair Emma I. Darnell. The Affordable Care Act was adopted by Congress in 2010 and upheld by the U.S Supreme Court.  One of the biggest changes under the ACA will begin October 1 when individuals and families will be able to purchase health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
On August 13, 2013, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius came to Fulton County government and met with local healthcare officials on the Affordable Care Act addressing the Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment and the need for “Champions of Coverage” to work within local communities to get information out to citizens.  Secretary Sebelius has said that Champions of Coverage include, “a network of volunteers on the ground in every state – health care providers, business leaders, faith leaders, community groups, advocates, and local elected officials – [who] can help spread the word and encourage their neighbors to get enrolled.”
Answering Secretary Sebelius’ call, Commissioner Edwards drafted a resolution supporting the Affordable Care Act and will host an information session on the Health Insurance Marketplace for District 7. Dr. Pam Roshell, Regional Director, Region IV, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be present to share this important information with the community.
