Council Member Winslow Sets Town Hall Meetings with Atlanta University Students

ATLANTA -- Council Member Cleta Winslow, who represents students in the Atlanta University Center, has agreed to a series of town hall meetings to address concerns of interest to students, faculty and the administration at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College,  the Morehouse School of Medicine and the Interdenominational Theological Center.

In fact, since earlier this year when a Morehouse student was slain near the campus, Winslow has been meeting with the college's administration, faculty and students to address public safety issues.

"I plan to put several public safety measures in place to address the concerns that students and administration have brought to my attention," she said. "I have met on numerous occasions with (Morehouse College President) Dr. (John) Wilson, and at the town hall meetings, I will be discussing the specific public safety measures that the City will be implementing to address the concerns that have been presented."

Winslow, a graduate of the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) School of Social Work, has also met with graduate students at CAU.

"Over the years, I have developed a close working relationship with the campus police at the Atlanta University Center institutions, so when Jasmine Lynn, a Spelman College student, was slain while walking through the AUC campus, I felt compelled to support the effort to bring the perpetrator to justice," said Winslow.  "I  marched with students from Spelman, Morehouse, Clayton State and Georgia State to the State Capitol to protest the violence on campus and gave a $5,000 reward to Crimestoppers to help police catch the person responsible.  Ten days later, the perpetrator was arrested."

The Council Member has a long history of involvement in supporting the AUC, starting with earning her Master's in Social Work from Clark Atlanta University, to working at Morehouse and being awarded the first community service award given by the Atlanta Chapter of the Spelman College Alumnae Association.

"My commitment is always to the safety and well-being of constituents in District 4, particularly the students, who represent the future of our communities," said Winslow. "I have always kept lines of communication open to the educational institutions throughout the District.  The AU Center is no different."
