11 Year-Old Bystander Shot in Shoulder on Coleman St. after Altercation

Witnesses needed to come forward

Atlanta Police investigators are still waiting for witnesses to come with valuable information about last night's altercation between two groups of people in the Arthur and Sims Street area that led to gunshots being fired and an innocent boy being hit while outside on Coleman Street.

According to police, "around 8:30pm officers responded to the 900 block of Coleman St in Southwest Atlanta regarding a person shot call. Upon arrival officers found an 11 year old male who had been shot to the shoulder."

Officers say that the boy was transported to Egleston Hospital, "in stable condition."

Officer John Chafee wrote, "the preliminary investigation indicates that two groups of people began exchanging gunfire in the area of Sims St and Arthur St. The groups moved into the 900 block of Coleman St while continuing to exchange gunfire. It appears that the victim was outside in the 900 block of Coleman St when he was struck by the gunfire and it appears that he was not involved with the two groups."

According to WSB-TV, Officer Chafee said, "several people say they may have been on foot or on bicycles. That's something we're still sorting out. Several witness have said they may have left on bicycles."
