APD: Boy Released Unharmed After SW Atlanta Abduction

Atlanta police have released a sketch of a man suspected of abducting a southwest Atlanta boy from outside his Fairburn Road home on Monday night and later releasing him in East Point.

According to Officer John Chafee, responding officers were called to the home around 9 p.m. and were advised that the 9-year-old child had not returned after going outside to retrieve a tool used in cleaning out his dog's cage.  

Officers began canvassing the area and around 10:30 p.m., the boy’s guardian received a phone call from the child, who advised that he was at a residence in East Point.

Investigators responded to the address and recovered the child, who was not physically harmed during the incident. 

“The child advised that while outside a vehicle pulled up and the driver forced him inside,” said Chafee. “He was driven around for a while and then dropped off in a residential neighborhood in East Point where he then knocked on a door and called the guardian.”

The boy told WSB TV about the horrifying incident that began with the suspect reportedly grabbing the boy after the youth had spied some some money in his front yard.

"I was walking by the tree; I picked up the money and a man got out of his car and threw me in his car," the boy told the news outlet.

According to police, the preliminary description on the vehicle is a grey four-door Honda Civic.

The suspect is described as a medium complexion black male with medium length dreads. He appeared to be in his twenties and was wearing khaki shorts and a white t-shirt with a Nike logo. He also had a tattoo on one of his biceps.
