Atlanta police have a man in custody they have accused of shooting and killing a man two weeks ago outside Grady Hospital.

According to Officer John Chafee, after police had identified Melvin Moss, 58, as the man responsible for the March 20 downtown Atlanta killing of Antonio Lamar Diggs, they determined he was already in jail on a traffic charge.

Moss has been served with the arrest warrant on murder charges and will be transported to Fulton County Jail once he is released from the custody of Atlanta Pre-Trial Detention Center.

The incident happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. At the time, the preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting may have started as a verbal altercation that escalated to gunfire.

Investigators said two weeks ago they believe that there was possibly some type of association between the victim and suspect.
