Atlanta Police Chief's Son, a Firefighter, Arrested on Shoplifting Charge at Douglasville Walmart

Fire department awaits disposition in case.

The Atlanta police chief's son, a current firefighter, is facing a shoplifting charge for an incident in Douglasville in which he's accused of trying to steal underwear, water bottles, flashlights and batteries.

Firefighter Thomas Turner was arrested on Feb. 28, according to WSB-TV, which obtained the police report. Thomas Turner is the son of Atlanta Police Chief George Turner.

The arrest occurred at the Walmart in Douglasville.

Channel 2 cited a report that said Turner was watched by a Walmart loss-prevention employee who called 911. When officers arrived, the report states, officers found Turner with the goods, with a retail value of $38.28, stuffed in his pockets.

When Channel 2 contacted the Atlanta Fire Department officials, they said they are aware of the arrest and released a brief statement:

"Firefighter Turner has returned to work and has been reassigned to a non-safety-sensitive position. The Department’s Office of Professional Standards is awaiting the results of the court’s disposition of the case before making a decision as to any departmental action."
