Autopsy Underway for Infant Found Dead in Bathtub with Unconscious Parents

Atlanta Police are waiting on a Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office autopsy on a baby boy found dead Thursday in Mechanicsville.

Atlanta police are waiting on autopsy results to learn more about how an infant boy ended up dead, and his parents unconscious, in a bathtub in a Mechanicsville apartment, local news is reporting.

According to a Fox 5 report, investigators were called to the home, in the 400 block of Fulton Street, Thursday by the grandmother of the boy around 6:40 p.m. When investigators arrived, the baby was non-responsive and his parents unconscious in the tub.

In a WSBTV.com story, Lt. Paul Guerrucci said that investigators were not able to determine how the child died.

"Based on what the grandmother said, they were inside the tub and there is water in the tub and there is a toaster nearby," Guerrucci said. Detectives said the toaster was plugged into an electrical outlet.

The parents were rushed to Grady and were in stable condition Friday afternoon. According to the Fox 5 report, the father was able to speak with detectives briefly. He told the investigators that his baby had stopped breathing, that the parents became distraught and that they placed a toaster in a tub of water.
