Arrests Made in Carjacking at Liquor Store on Abernathy Boulevard

Atlanta police have arrested two people in connection with a carjacking in the parking lot of the D&M liquor store at 595 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd.

Police have captured two suspects who used their minivan to block the driver of a Saab 9-2 Turbo in the parking lot of an Abernathy liquor store and steal his car at gunpoint.

About 6 p.m. Wednesday, Atlanta police attempted to stop the Saab near University and Pryor streets, according to an e-mail news release from Atlanta Police Sgt. Curtis Davenport, but the driver took off. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Mead Street. Two people were taken into custody, according to Davenport, and a handgun was seized.

The carjacking occurred 7 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of D & M Package, 595 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd, several blocks from . The Saab’s owner told police he had just turned into the parking lot when a gold minivan pulled behind him, blocking him in.

One of the suspects climbed into the Saab, brandished a handgun and ordered the man out of the car. The suspect then assailant drove off in the Saab, with the minivan following him, police said.

The suspects were charged with hijacking a motor vehicle, theft by receiving a stolen auto and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police are withholding their identities, pending further investigation. No injuries were reported.
