Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards Named 2013 Newsmaker of the Year

The Neighbor Newspapers announced District 7 Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards as its 2013 Newsmaker of the Year for South Fulton. Annually at the eve of a new year, the Neighbor recognizes an individual who, “shone in the spotlight of coverage throughout [their] 2013 publication year."

In the article written about the announcement, the Neighbor highlights many accomplishments that led to their decision to bestow Commissioner Edwards with this honor including:

-  His strong efforts to promote transparency through civic engagement on key south Fulton issues through his quarterly listening sessions.

-  His efforts to improve the quality of life of south Fulton citizens through such projects such as the renovations and re-opening of the South Fulton Tennis Center and improvements to Welcome All Park. Wolf Creek Amphitheater also afforded residents with a full season of entertainment in 2013.

-  His efforts to promote economic development by bringing the TomorrowWorld festival to South Fulton which was also its first appearance in the United States and drew nearly 100,000 people to the County. 

-  His efforts to increase public safety measures in south Fulton by advocating for new, state-of-the-art crime-fighting equipment which included the Fulton County Police receiving T3 Patrollers, new helicopter infrared systems and other vehicles. Further enhancements also included new fire engines and additional police officers and firefighters. 

Edwards was also lauded for having spearheaded several worthwhile initiatives targeting south Fulton youth, a particular passion of his.

“I am truly humbled by this recognition from the Neighbor Newspapers”, stated Commissioner Edwards. “None of this would be possible without the continued support of south Fulton residents and it is simply my honor to serve them.”
