Fire Prevention Week at Darnell
Seniors at the Darnell Senior Facility learn more about fire prevention Monday in recognition of "Fire Prevention Week."
personnel were on hand Monday at the to increase awareness about fire prevention in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, which began Sunday.
This year's theme is "It's Fire Prevention Week! Protect your Family from Fire!" At the Darnell Center on Monday, a fire truck and house were on display.
Monique Jordan, of the Fulton County Fire Rescue Department, explained the importance of being at the Darnell location.

"The two groups harmed the most during fires are seniors and young children," Jordan said. Older Americans 65 and over, studies show, are twice as likely to be injured or killed by fires than the larger population.
Fire Department officials offered fire prevention tips and information to the many interested Darnell participants. Firefighter LaShon Polk was one of several fire department personnel on hand conducting blood pressure checks.

On Friday, fire department personnel will also be present at the Southwest Branch Library on Cascade.
