Fatal Crash Blocks I-285 Traffic For Two Hours

Woman killed when the car she was driving was struck by a pair of tractor-trailers near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

A woman was killed Sunday evening after the Nissan she was driving was hit by a tractor-trailer on I-285 near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

According to Atlanta Police, the Nissan was sent into the highway guardrail after it was struck by the tractor-trailer as the rig was attempting to change lanes. The car hit the guardrail and was then hit by the cab of another tractor-trailer.

Police officials confirmed that the woman died at the scene.

Another passenger in the Nissan was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries according to police. The crash occurred before 7 p.m. and resulted in all southbound lanes of I-285 being blocked for more than two hours.

Police are still investigating the accident and no charges have been filed.
