Husband and Wife Shot Trying to Stop Thieves on Dawson Lane, SW

A husband and wife are in stable condition after being shot in their driveway overnight.


A group of thieves were attempting to steal a car from a home on Dawson Lane when the two homeowners heard them and tried to stop the robbery in progress.

According to AJC reporting, "the incident happened about 1:15 a.m. at a home on Dawson Lane."  Dawson Lane is near Hogan Road and Fairburn Road.

Cap. Tim Peek of the Atlanta Police Department said, "The victims came outside to confront some suspects who were stealing their vehicle. At some point, gunfire was exchanged with the victims and the suspects all shooting at one another. The victim was shot twice in the back, and the victim’s wife was hit in her leg as well."

CBS Atlanta reports that, "the suspects got away without stealing the vehicle, though there were several gunshots in the windshield by the time the shootout was over."

According to 11Alive, neighbors in the area complained of a spike in robberies in the nice middle-class neighborhood, and one neighbor said that someone tried to break into her home just moments before they heard the gunshots.

The homeowners were transported to Grady in stable condition.
