Man Found Dead Inside Burning East Point Home, No Foul Play Suspected

UPDATE: The East Point Fire Department in conjunction with the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the cause of an early morning fire claiming the life of a man to be “accidental in nature.”  Investigators report the fire at 1788 Gillem Drive originated in the living room, and appears to have been caused by a candle igniting a sofa.  Investigators also indicate the home had no Smoke Alarm.

Speaking on behalf of the Fire Department, Chief Rosemary R. Cloud stated, “We are saddened by the loss of one of our residents, and our prayers are with the family.”  The Chief continued, “Today we will be canvassing the neighborhood where the fire occurred with fire safety information, and offer to install smoke alarms as well as provide home inspections.” stated Chief Cloud.
