MARTA Driver Fired After Allegedly Dragging Woman

Belinda McMillan violated MARTA rules by leaving the scene of an accident without authorization and making a false statement.

 MARTA spokesperson Cara Hodgenson has released a statement on the incident that occured May 8 on Route 51 in which a MARTA rider was allegedly dragged by the bus on which she was riding.

"MARTA has completed a full investigation into the incident that occurred on Bus Route 51 on the evening of Sunday, May 8, 2011, and has found the bus operator Ms. Belinda McMillian to be in violation of the following MARTA work rules:  leaving the scene of an accident without authorization and making a false statement.  Therefore, her employment with MARTA has been terminated."

 The statement continues:

"We want to make it very clear that MARTA will not, under any circumstances, tolerate an incident that compromises the safety of our customers and employees.  Safety and security are MARTA’s highest priorities, and immediate action will be taken when violations occur. 

 At the same time, we want to assure the public that this incident is in no way representative of our employees as a whole who are dedicated to providing our community with safe, reliable, and courteous service every day. "
