The following is a letter from Morehouse College in regards to the double shooting on Thursday evening, just off campus. APD has not released many details because it is still an active investigation. You can find our Atlanta police coverage of the incident by following this link.
Dr. John Silvanus Wilson Jr.
President, Morehouse College
The Morehouse College community was shocked and saddened to learn that on Thursday, June 13, one of our students was killed and another man wounded in a shooting at the intersection of Parson Street and Webster Street near the campus.
The Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit is conducting a thorough investigation in order to bring the perpetrators to justice. We are fully cooperating with them to maintain a level of confidentiality that preserves the integrity of the investigation.
Under any circumstance, the loss of a young life is difficult to accept. But tragedies such as this demand that more be done to ensure the safety of our students.
To this end, I am committed to continuing our efforts with the Atlanta Police to find new ways to address the problem of crime in the area. I am also committed to making sure that we, at Morehouse, do our part to create an environment defined by a high level of personal responsibility and zero tolerance for violence.
