Update: Clark Atlanta student arrested in Morehouse rec center shooting

Morehouse College student listed in stable condition after being shot in the arm during a Friday afternoon on-campus basketball game dispute.

Clark Atlanta University student Amir Obafemi, 22, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with Friday’s basketball pick-up game shooting on the Morehouse College campus.

Several news outlets reported the arrest by the Morehouse Police Department of Obafemi, who was booked on $2,000 bond in the Fulton County Jail.

WSB TV reported that the victim, who was shot in the forearm and is expected to make a full recovery, has been identified as Morehouse student Cornileus Savage.

John Silvanus Wilson Jr., who began his duties this week at Morehouse College's 11th president, was expected to attend an anti-violence rally at the school Saturday, a day after a student was shot in the forearm at a Morehouse recreation and fitness center building.

The school confirmed the rally would take place in the campus chapel plaza at 4 p.m. The Saturday 6 p.m. men’s home basketball game against Clark Atlanta will not be played as scheduled.

And argument during an on-campus pickup basketball game resulted in a Morehouse College student being shot in the arm late Friday afternoon.

According to CBS Atlanta, shortly before 6 p.m., four shots were fired during the dispute at Samuel H. Archer Hall and the victim was shot in the forearm. The student, who was not identified, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition.

According to the news outlet, Morehouse police believe there are two suspects involved and both are thought to be students within the Atlanta University Center, which includes Morehouse School of Medicine, Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College.

An estimated 20 people witnessed the shooting and there were cell photographs taken that police are examining as photographic evidence.

AJC.com reported that the victim was “alert, breathing and conscious” before being taken to the hospital. The shooting took place the same week that John Silvanus Wilson Jr. took over as the 11th Morehouse’s president.

Saturday’s men’s basketball game between Morehouse and Clark Atlanta has been canceled the news outlets reported.
