SWAT team was called to the scene, but was not needed for the suspects to surrender

According to Sgt. Gregory Lyon with the Atlanta Police Department, "while patrolling at about 1:30am, a Zone One beat officer (1106) came upon a subject that had been shot in the back on Spencer St."

The subject advised the officer that, "he had been looking in the garbage for scrap cans, and got into a verbal argument with someone at 872 Spencer St."

The homeless man says as he walked away, he was shot in the back. APD confirms that the man was transported to Grady Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators arrived to the scene and, "observed shell casings at the front door of the house, and could hear movement inside. No one would come to the door after extended knocking," says APD.

SWAT was called to the scene, however, the three suspects inside the home decided to surrender and were safely taken into custody.

The three arrested were all males between the ages of 38 and 28.
