UPDATE: Man Found on Laurelmont Drive Dies From Injuries

Police continue to canvass the neighborhood for witnesses to the incident.

Atlanta Police have confirmed that a man was found lying on the ground with injuries on Laurelmont Drive near Benjamin E. Mays Drive around 1:30 am on Friday morning.

Officer Kim Jones told Cascade Patch that units responded "to a 911 call of a male injured at the location and upon arrival located a male unresponsive with severe head injuries."

It was first reported that the man was possibly a pedestrian involved in a hit-and-run.

Police now say it "appeared the male had been assaulted with an unknown object and had suffered major head trauma."

According to Jones, "due to the victim's severe head injuries, physical identification was very difficult. Swelling to the victim face prevented a positive identification from being made."

Grady Hospital later confirmed the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators continue to canvas the neighborhood.  The victim's identity has not been released to the public at this time.
