Shots Fired During Police Chase on University Avenue

No one was injured in the gunfight.

An Atlanta police officer exchanged gunshots with a suspect attempting to flee from a routine traffic stop early Saturday morning. No was injured and the suspects are in custody, Atlanta police said.

At around 12:30 a.m. Saturday an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle fled. Police say the driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle near Mayland Circle and University Avenue and fled on foot. At this time, police believe one of the passengers fired several shots at the officer who returned fire.

Police ultimately apprehended the driver and the passengers, one of whom police believe was the shooter. The man thought to be the shooter has several outstanding warrants, said police. Officer John Chafee said the second passenger was not charged.
