Southwest Atlanta Resident Indicted in Midtown Shooting

Nkosi Thandiwe is formally charged in the July shooting that killed one woman, injured two others.

A Fulton County grand jury has indicted the man accused of killing one woman and injuring two others during a shooting spree in Midtown this summer, according to the AJC.

The newspaper reports that on Friday was formally charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, gun possession and other charges in the July 15 attack.

Thandiwe, 22, was working as a security guard at the Proscenium building when he allegedly shot and killed Brittney Watts in the building's parking garage. Police say he fled the garage in her car, shooting two other women as he exited onto Crescent Avenue.

The shooting left Lauren Garcia with spinal cord injuries. She recently was released from the Shepherd Center in Buckhead.

Another victim, Tiffany Ferenczy, was shot in the leg.

All three women worked at the Proscenium building.

Friends and acquaintances of the suspect have expressed shock. They describe Thandiwe as coming from a well-respected family of high achievers and avid recreational runners.

Thandiwe’s father, Iilonga, is a computer engineer, whose name has appeared on a variety of patent applications. His mother, Lynnae, is an attorney in a private practice, according to the State Bar of Georgia's online directory.

A search of federal court records shows that during her career, Lynnae Thandiwe handled multiple federal prison cases for the Southern Center for Human Rights, the anti-death penalty legal advocacy group.

According to an online biography, she is a graduate of Stanford University and the law school at the University of California at Berkeley.

Thandiwe is being held at the Fulton County jail without bond, according to the AJC.
