Thieves Attempt to Steal Money from Local Bank of America ATM

The suspects' getaway car was found torched on Brown Mills Road.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, thieves were unsuccessful last night at stealing any money from a Bank of America ATM in Southwest Atlanta.

Officer Kim Jones told Cascade Patch that at, "approximately 4:47 am, an alarm call came up at the Bank of America ATM located at 3800 Browns Mill Rd."  She said that bank security personnel advised they were watching the attempted theft on bank surveillance cameras and observed, "a black SUV used to pry open the front of the ATM machine."

The suspects may have not done their homework, because it seems that they did not know that there is an internal safe at the larger style ATMs in order to protect the money.

"The suspects were not able to take any cash. The SUV fled northbound on Browns Mill Road," stated Officer Jones.  "DUI officers were notified and as they were canvassing the area discovered the suspect vehicle at 3755 Browns Mill road on fire."

Atlanta Police investigators were able to determine that the car used in the attempted theft was taken in a carjacking 8/1/13 in Henry County.

The suspects are still at large.
