Three Arrested in MARTA Train Attacks

Attacks began shortly after band of youth left downtown club.

MARTA Police have arrested three youths in connection with the April 16 attack and robbery of two Delta Airlines employees on a southbound train between the Garnett and Oakland City Stations.

According to a statement by MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris, authorities arrested Zantavious Sanchez Scott, 20, and Jarquez Scott, 19, brothers and  both of Atlanta. Both have been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and robbery by force and are being held at the Fulton County Jail.

A 16-year-old male, whose name is not being released because of his age, is being held at the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center in Atlanta, according to Harris. Investigators have also obtained arrest warrants for at least two other suspects who live in Atlanta; a 19-year-old adult male and a 14-year-old male juvenile.

The attack occurred very early Sunday morning after some 30 youths boarded the southbound train at the Garnett Station, at 225 Peachtree St., and began attacking the two passengers.

The horde of young people had just attended a party at a club near downtown.  A fight broke out in the club and the teens were placed out of the club. The teens walked a short distance to the Garnett Station and boarded the train.

The youths attacked two Delta Airline employees on their way to work at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. One victim had a soda can smashed in his face and his wallet stolen, while the other was punched repeatedly in his face, according to the MARTA incident report.  A witness said the group chanted "B.F.P.L." during the attack.

The youths departed the train two stops later at the Oakland City Station, 1400 Lee St.

Police are continuing the investigation and are searching for others who are believed to have been involved.
