Thursday Night Shootings in Atlanta; 1 Dead, Multiple Critical

The Atlanta Police Department released a preliminary report of 3 separate shootings that occurred on December 20th.

 

Thursday evening, December 20th at about 5:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a man shot in the parking lot of Therrell High School near Mt. Gilead. This call began a series of unrelated gunshot calls in the span of 2 hours.

Near the parking lot of Therrell High School at 3099 Panther Trail, APD officers found a male, "who appeared to have been shot at least one time."  Investigators say that it appears that the shooting did not occur where the victim was found and that they are still "working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and to identify the location of the incident," according to Officer Chafee.

The 21 year-old victim was rushed to Grady where he later died from his wounds.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. in Southeast Atlanta, a man in his 40's was shot multiple times on Moreland Avenue and rushed to Grady Hospital.  APD Public Affairs states that he was in "extremely critical condition" as of 10:00 p.m.  Motive and suspects are unclear.

One hour later at 7:50 p.m. a call came in reporting multiple people shot during an apparent home invasion.  The incident occurred in 600 block of Cedar Avenue in northwest Atlanta, near Bankhead Hwy.  According to police, "upon arrival officers located two males who had been shot and a male who had been assaulted. The victims range in age from late teens to mid thirties."
Motive and suspects are still unclear.
