The toddler who died Tuesday has been identified as Brandy Buffington.
A female toddler died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in southwest Atlanta.
According to Atlanta Police Officer John Chafee, the 2-year-old, whose name has not been released, was struck by a daycare van around 4:30 p.m. in the 700 block of University Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the van had pulled into a parking lot at the location to drop off several children.
As the driver was backing out of the lot, the van struck the girl, who was not one of the children being dropped off.
According to Chafee, it appears that the child was playing outside and went behind the van when the accident occurred.
The girl was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but did not survive.
The driver who hit the child stayed on the scene after the accident. The investigation remains active and no charges have been filed.
