U.S Marshal Shot in the Leg While Serving Warrant in SW Atlanta

UPDATE:  Officials have confirmed that the officer shot was Officer James Hobbs from the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.  "He is a 12 year veteran of the DeKalb Police Department and has been assigned to the Fugitive Task Force for the past three years," reports WSB.

Original Report - A United States Marshal Task Force member is in good condition at Atlanta Medical Center after being shot in the leg while trying to serve a warrant on Diana Drive S.W.

The Marshal was shot Thursday morning while serving a search and arrest warrant at the home which sits near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway.  According to reports the gunman shot the Marshal while he was inside and the Marshal was still outside his home.

According to WSB who spoke to one of the other Marshals, "they knocked on the door to serve the warrant and someone in the home opened fire, hitting the officer in the calf. He said the officers involved did not return fire."

The officer shot is a Dekalb County police officer who was on the Marshal Task Force team.  He was alert and breathing when he was transported to the hospital. According to police, the shooting suspect surrendered and was arrested at the scene.
