Weekend Crime Updates - 50 year-old Man Fatally Shot

The first weekend of 2013 saw 1 fatal shooting in the area, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Approximately at 2:40 p.m. Sunday on Mellview Avenue, 1 male was fatally shot in the neck by 2 individuals.  The victim was 50 years old and was seen walking with 2 younger males, when one supposedly pulled out a weapon and shot the man once in the neck.

The suspects took off running and fled, according to police in a SUV, "possibly a Chevrolet Suburban with dark rims. It was last seen traveling south on Metropolitan Parkway."

No arrests have been made at this time.  Individuals with any information are asked to call the Atlanta Police and offer information anonymously.

In addition, it was reported this weekend, that the first homicide death within Atlanta in 2013 occurred near Oakland City on Epworth Street.  Family members and community members gathered on Saturday to hold a vigil for Jared Billings, the 19 year-old that was shot in the chest on New Year's after an argument.
