Authorities said a metal pipe fell from a ceiling of the addition and struck a lift holding Garcia. The impact apparently caused him to fall from the lift onto the pavement 20 feet below.

Tim Thomas, Winter's Vice President for Risk Management, said Saturday that his company and authorities were continuing to investigate the accident.

"It is still under investigation," Thomas said at the school, 3450 Benjamin E. Mays Dr.

"I do know, however, that he did pass away," Thomas said.

Work has reportedly stopped Sunday on the $29 million remodeling and construction project that is scheduled to be completed by December.

The Fulton County medical examiner was on the scene Saturday afternoon at the school, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution story.
