APS Elementary, Middle Schools on "Close" Lists Tonight

Beecher Hills not on either of the two new elementary school closure/merger lists.

 

The Atlanta Public Schools' updated "Capacity/Utilization Study" contains a myriad charts, projections and analyses about ways to limit costs and best serve the district's students (see attached PDF).

Anyone who wants to become an expert on the demographers' plans simply must delve into the 12-page document.

However, there are two lists that provide basis information that almost everyone wants to know: what schools are now in line for possible closings or mergers?

First of all, according to the new report, the only school communities in line for closing are are elementary schools. And the schools that are in line for closing fall under either one or both option lists, presented in the district report.

Demographers and school officials will review and listen to questions and feedback on the option lists—as well as many other details for modifying enrollment in the district's schools—at a special redistricitng presentation meeting for the schools at 6:30 p.m. Tues., Jan. 31, at Young Middle School.

The meeting is open to the public but targets parents, teachers and other stakeholders for all schools feeding into and including Mays, Therrell, Washington and Douglass high schools, those represented by SRT 1 and SRT 4-N.W.

Demographers are not proposing the closing or merging of any high schools.
