Amos Defeats Sherrer El-Backed Candidate In Runoff

Byron Amos leads Angela Brown throughout Tuesday night to become the Atlanta Public School system's newest board member.

defeated Angela Brown in the Atlanta Public School System District 2 runoff Tuesday night.

Unofficially, Amos received 834 votes, or 54 percent, to Brown’s 708, or 46 percent.

Amos assumes the seat formerly held by , who also served as school board chairman before he resigned in the aftermath of the .

Late last week, in the runoff.

Amos led Brown throughout the evening, at one point garnering 57 percent of the vote.

Brown and Amos finished first and second, respectively, in in a crowded field of five candidates. Brown, described as a community organizer and Historic West End resident, garnered 38 percent of the vote, while Amos, a Washington High School graduate, finished with 24 percent.

Neither Amos or Brown returned phone calls Tuesday evening.

The election was administered over 34 precincts by the Fulton County Board of Elections. A total of 1,542 votes were cast.
