Brown, Amos Headed For APS District 2 Runoff

Five candidates sought the seat formerly held by Khaatim Sherrer El on the Atlanta Board of Education.

A crowded District 2 Atlanta school board race has resulted in a runoff between Angela Brown and Byron Amos.

“For me, the fact that I’m in a runoff shows that voters want change and they believe in our message,” Brown said. “My entire life has been dedicated to children and that message resonated on Tuesday.”

Five candidates sought the seat formerly held by , who also served as chairman of the Atlanta Public School System. Sherrer El in the wake of the cheating scandal which rocked the system.

Brown, a first-time candidate, garnered 38 percent of the vote, while Amos came in second with 24 percent. Dwanda Farmer placed third, with 19 percent.

To win the election without a runoff, one candidate would have needed to garner 50 percent of the vote, plus one.

Brown, , said she would leave a runoff strategy up to her campaign team.

“I’m a novice candidate,” she said. “I’m just excited in the belief and trust that voters have placed in me.”

Calls to Amos, , by Patch were not returned.
