Ceasar Mitchell, City Council President, Wishes Our Heroes a Happy Veterans Day

Today we honor those who fight and have fought for our freedom.

The following is a letter from Ceasar Mitchell to all of the veterans and their families.

Dear Friends,

Throughout history our military service men and women have served the United States with dignity, pride and courage. Tomorrow, we stop to honor them for their service and to simply say, “thank you” for their numerous sacrifices.

Veterans are a special group of people. Many volunteered to live a life that put their fellow citizens’ well-being before their own. They volunteered for service knowing the day could come when they would have to leave their own families to protect the families of others, both here and abroad. And they often traveled to distant lands to uphold the values that we hold so dear. And sadly, some never returned.

Tomorrow we will come together to celebrate veterans from all branches of the military and to show our appreciation for all that they have done to help keep our nation safe.  I ask that you join with me in saluting those who have worn the uniform, and in thanking their families who have stood by their side.

In our salute, let us remember those who now need us to stand up for them. Let’s advocate on their behalf to ensure they have access to the services they may need to live a life reflective of their service. Only then we are able to truly express our gratitude as a nation.

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
-John F. Kennedy
