Commissioner Emma Darnell Breaks Ground at the New Aviation Community Cultural Center

Vice Chair Emma I. Darnell and the Board of Commissioners held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fulton County Aviation Community Cultural Center last week at its future home located at 3900 Aviation Circle, near the Cascade Patch area.

There were reportedly 200 community members in attendance.

The 16,200 square-foot facility is scheduled to open May 2014, and has been designed as a community gathering place focusing on the history of North American Aviation, training for aviation careers, visual and performing arts.

Darnell said the process so far has been a long one.  "The potential to benefit surrounding neighborhoods and the larger Fulton County community is exciting," she said.

The project was initiated by a community advisory group in 1999, the Project was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“the Stimulus Fund”) and approved by the Board of Commissioners in 2010.
