(Updated) Councilwoman Joyce Sheperd Hosts Town Hall Today

New floodplain maps, transportation, safety and other topics on the agenda for District 12 residents.

Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce Sheperd will host a District 12 Town Hall Meeting from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Sat., Feb. 4, at the Dennard Center on the campus of Atlanta Technical College, according to a news release this week from the city.

Residents will have the opportunity to hear about various city initiatives impacting District 12, from economic development to public safety, as well as hear from Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of National Resources officials about updates to the city’s floodplain maps.

All City of Atlanta properties have been reviewed, and as a result, flood risks have increased for a number of parcels while the risk has decreased for other parcels. Some properties that were formerly in floodplains now will be designated as such, while some that were in floodplains no longer are. Some parcels have seen no change in their current flood risk designation status. While some property owners may be required purchase of flood insurance for the first time.
