Fulton Fresh Celebrates End of Season

Fulton County residents living in “food deserts” have been fortunate to have access to locally grown fresh vegetables and to receive nutrition education in their neighborhoods.  Fulton County Cooperative, in an effort to address health disparities, will celebrate the end its first season of operating the Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Shrine of the Black Madonna located at 946 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 from 10 am – 11:30 am.

The Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Unit delivered an estimated 10,000 lbs. of fresh produce to over 900 residents living in four areas identified as food deserts.   West End, Bankhead Highway, Palmetto and the Collier Heights communities have benefited from the delivery of fresh produce and learning about the importance of eating healthy, how to prepare tasty, healthy meals.  Plans are being made to expand the number of communities being served in order to reach more residents and help them to make healthy choices and to live healthier lives.

The End of Season Celebration is open to all residents.  Information about Cooperative Extension and other county services will be available as well as healthy treats and fresh produce from the Fulton Fresh Farmer’s Market Mobile Unit.
