The funeral for Nikita Thomas, 34, a veteran 911 dispatcher for the Atlanta Police Department and a mother of a 13-year-old son, is noon today, Oct. 4, at Green Forest Community Baptist Church, 3188 Rainbow Drive in Decatur.

After leaving Greenbriar Mall that Sunday, Thomas and her boyfriend were approached near Susan Lane by men with guns who came up to their SUV, demanding cash.
At some point, the men started shooting, hitting Thomas' boyfriend, who somehow managed to drive to the intersection of Barge and Campbellton.

Police said the SUV then slammed head-on into the Route 166 Marta bus, killing Thomas on impact.
Several Marta patrons received injuries, and were taken to local hospital for evaluations.

Thomas is survived by her 13-year-old son, who was in the backseat of the SUV, and released from the hospital the next morning.
