Get Out! Your Weekend Plans Are Here

The long week is over and the weekend is almost here. No plans? Not to worry, Cascade Patch has you covered.

1) Atlanta Football Classic Concert

When/Where: Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave., Friday 8 p.m.

The Event: This weekend, Atlanta welcomes back the Atlanta Football Classic and to kick it off will be the Black is Beautiful Tour with Angie Stone and Raheem DeVaughn. This is the official concert of the football classic that is hosted by comedian MC Lightfoot. Southwest Atlanta, come on to the City’s Civic Center and support your venue and support 100 Black Men of Atlanta. A portion of the proceeds go to their Project Success program.

2) Avoid Foreclosure

When/Where: Westlake High School, 2400 Union Rd., Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Event: Fulton County Residents, if you are in danger of losing your home or are unsure of the status of your mortgage, please come to the free Fulton County Foreclosure Prevention Fair. The event is sponsored by the Department of Housing and Human Services, Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards and District 7.

Residents, you do not want to miss this opportunity to meet with a HUD approved housing counselor. A list of Mortgage providers that will be at the event is available online at http://www.fultoncountyga.gov/housing-and-human-services.

3) Step Out

When/Where: Grant Park, 840 Cherokee Ave., Saturday, 8:30 a.m.

The Event: American Diabetes Association presents the 2011 Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes signature event. After the Atlanta City Council this past summer adopted a resolution supporting this event, Councilmember Michael Bond, who has been diagnosed with diabetes, took the lead to build the City’s team.

Join Team Atlanta, which is co-captain by Post-1 at Large City Councilmember Bond and District 12 Councilmember Joyce Sheperd, along with City of Atlanta employees and residents fight against diabetes by taking this walk. Together we can Stop Diabetes

4) FAMU vs. Southern

When/Where: Georgia Dome, Saturday 3:30 p.m.

The Event: Bank of America and 100 Black Men of Atlanta welcomes to the Georgia Dome, the Atlanta Football Classic as the Rattlers of FAMU battles Atlanta Classic newcomer, the Southern Tigers.

Come on over to the dome and see a match of out of conference foes, it’s the M.E.A.C vs. the S.W.A.C as two Historically Black Universities battle it out on the gridiron, but of course it’s not just a game….. There is the half time show. When I say show I mean SHOW as in the Battle of the Bands. Who will win?

Once halftime hits, everybody on your feet for the Battle of the Bands with the Human Juke Box of Bands battles the Marching 100 and once the dust settles your cheers determine the winner. All through the game you will hear the band play and see the players play and your enthusiasm and attendance will make the dome shake.

The proceeds of the game will benefit the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s Project Success which helps to mentor and support our youth. For more information please visit www.atlantafootballclassic.com.
