Life Sentence for Man Convicted in 2010 Oakland City Double Homicide

Deangelo Gales will serve life plus twenty years for the murder of a 33-year-old man and a 16-year-old caught in the crossfire.

Deangelo Gales, 28, will serve life in prison plus twenty years for murder and voluntary manslaughter charges in connection with the shooting death in 2010 of two men: Henry Bryant, 33, and Deaun Davis, 16, according to a news release from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr.

The incident happened on May 24, 2010, outside a Selwin Avenue home near Lee Street in the Oakland City area, a few blocks northeast of Finch Elementary School, 1114 Avon Ave.

According to witnesses, Gales and Bryant—who had been engaged in on-going disputes about various matters—were once again arguing with one another.

Bryant then drew a weapon on the defendant but set it aside when the weapon jammed. Instead of letting the feud subside, Gales left the scene to retrieve a weapon from his car. He returned, opened fire and struck an innocent teenager bystander, who stumbled into a nearby grassy area and died.

The defendant’s intended target, Bryant, was also struck during the initial gun fire. Once Bryant fell to the ground, the defendant stood over the victim and shot him seven more times until he was fatally wounded. Gales fled the scene in his car and was later arrested on murder warrants.
