Why Has the Program that put Cops in Foreclosed Homes Stopped?

At a recent NPU-T meeting, the topic of selling foreclosed homes to the city so that they could put Police families in them came up because neighbors were discussing all of the crime and vandalism that occurs in a foreclosure.

To much of the meeting room's surprise, residents were informed that the program has been put on a hiatus if not stopped completely.  No longer was it an option for neighbors to try to propose properties for police officers to move into.

ADA Butler broke the news to the room, but was careful to try to explain why the program needed a second look. "It put the DA's office in the business of real estate," she said and that was never the intention.

One of the community members agreed that the program can stand some changes, but was adamant that the community needs this program and said that neighborhoods would help the DA office administer a program like this so that the DA's office would not be in the business of real estate.

We will see what further discussions may come from this.
