Four Family-Friendly Things to Do This Weekend

Take the family to see Jazzy Sleeping Beauty” a full-length classical ballet with a colorful twist on a familiar fairytale classic. Performed by dancers of East Point's Ballethnic Dance Company, Jazzy Sleeping Beauty moves from the 1840’s where Tchaikovsky’s classical score celebrates the Princess, and then onto the 1940’s where the Princess awakens, serenaded by a current composer’s jazzy score. The ballet blends the classical style of ballet with jazz and African-American dance. The show runs from March 22 through March 25 at Georgia Tech's Ferst Center for the Arts. To purchase tickets, contact the Ferst Center Box Office at (404) 894-9601. Tickets are $29 for senior citizens, students, children and groups of 10 or more. General admission tickets are $39; Thursday, Friday, Saturday night is buy one-get one for $39.  

Head over to the 7th Annual Children's Nutrition and Physical Activity Expo and get ready to MOVE IT! It's a full day of children's learning complete with nutrition learning labs, fun fitness activities, live performances, health screenings, vendor exhibits and an egg scavenger hunt. It's all free and will take place on Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Adamsville Recreation Center, 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Southwest Atlanta.

Don't miss Rabbit Tales at the Southwest Arts Center on Sat., March 24 at 11:00 AM. Rabbit Tales is the Atlanta Opera's newly commissioned Children's Opera based on the Br’er Rabbit stories, popularized by Southern author Joel Chandler Harris in the late 19th Century. This production is a contemporary, light-hearted rendering of several story lines from Native American, African, and Cajun Folklore. Tickets are $6. The Southwest Arts Center is located at 915 New Hope Rd. in Atlanta.

Experience good old-fashioned fun at the Atlanta Fair. Visitors can delight in fair favorites, test their strength at the Hi-Striker and check out all of the pageants and programs that the fair has to offer. The Fair, located at Turner Field in Atlanta opens at 12 noon on Saturday and at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. On weekends, the Fair closes at 11:00 p.m. Gate admission prices are $1 for children between 2 and 11; adults (12 and over) are $5 Monday through Friday and on Sunday. On Saturdays, admission prices for adults is  is $8 after 6 PM. Midway rides, games and food are not included in the admission price.
