5th Grade F. L. Stanton Graduates 'Always Will Believe'

Commencement for the West Lake area school was Monday; the school is among 20 Cascade Patch elementary schools with graduations this month.

For six years, the 56 pupils have known nothing but elementary school life, all or some of it at F. L. Stanton Elementary.

That will change, soon, the keynote speaker, father of four and mentor to the class told them Monday morning.

"In middle school you will meet more kids who are selling drugs and doing things they should not be," the Rev. Shaun King, a Morehouse College graduate and pastor of Courageous Church, said in his address. "You will have to make more decisions for yourself and not be afraid to do the right thing."

The graduates—beautiful and handsome in white dresses and Sunday-best ties—appeared ready for the challenge.

Every child was special in the 90-minute ceremony that included modern dance, bell choir music and awards for everything from perfect attendance to sports and academic achievements.  And, just before marching two-by-two from the large auditorium, the class enthusiastically offered their class song: "I Believe" by Yolanda Adams.
