Deadline Today for Feedback on Atlanta Public Schools Redistricting Plan

Atlanta Public Schools parents and stakeholders can email official statements and comments to the district about the proposed closing or merging of several southwest Atlanta schools through the end of the business day today.

The deadline to submit comments on the Atlanta Public Schools redistricting plan is today, Dec. 16th.

Several southwest Atlanta elementary schools are on the Atlanta Schools' drawing board for mergers and closings, according to sources with the Atlanta Public Schools system.

At a Nov. 29th meeting at Douglass High School, APS officials presented four comprehensive scenerios for closing or merging schools across the district. Included in several scenerios were the following southwest Atlanta-area schools:

Since the announcement, students at Beecher Hills have held a protest, according to an CBS Atlanta report, and this past Monday, more than 100 people attended a joint meeting between the Atlanta Board of Education and the City Council to learn about the system's first attempt at redrawing school boundaries.

APS officials say they will not approve the boundaries for another few months but a decision must be made before the 2012-2013 school year.
